GUIDE TO SETTING-UP NEWBORN SCREENING SERVICES
1. Attend one of the orientations conducted by the Newborn Screening Reference Center or by the DOH Regional Office (please contact your respective DOH Regional Office for the schedule).
2. Inform management of your interest to set-up newborn screening service
3. Organize a NBS Team composed of a NBS Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator who will over-see the NBS implementation in your institution.
4. Accomplish and submit the forms ( Institutional Membership Form and submit to:
Newborn Screening Reference Center
National Institutes of Health, UP Manila
Pedro Gil, Ermita, Manila.
Always keep copies of all submitted forms in your file
5. As soon as the NSRC receives the duly accomplished forms, you will be assigned to a Newborn Screening Center (NSC). NSRC will send you a welcome letter indicating your hospital code with the administrative mechanics including how to order the NBS Specimen Collection Kit.
6. Once you received your hospital code, send a properly accomplished Purchase Order of NBS Specimen Kits to the Newborn Screening Center (NSC). Please read the rest of the administrative mechanics. As soon as you receive the NBS Specimen Collection Kit, your institution may now start offering newborn screening services to your newborns.
6. Inform all sections concerned (e.g. Depts. Of Pediatrics and OB, Nursery) about the forthcoming inclusion of newborn screening in the institution.
7. Prepare an Advocacy and Promotional Plan for the following:
a) Administrators
b) Professionals / Health Practitioners
c) Expectants parents, guardians / patients
